Indore: Union HRD minister Prakash Javadekar has announced 15 percent reduction in the curriculum from 2019-20 academic session to decrease students’ study load. However, this reduction is less likely to help students, according to educators.

At a meeting of National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) general council, Javadekar said, “This year, there will be 10% – 15 % reduction. Next year, it will be more. Finally in 2021, the target will be achieved,” he said. On the other hand, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) had scrapped Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation, which was considered too easy for students. Instead, CBSE reintroduced compulsory board examinations for Class X in order to raise education standard from this academic year.

While most educators feel there is no need to reduce curriculum, they stressed on including technology, contemporary history in the curriculum. Free Press talked to parents to know their views. Excerpts
