While Bhartiya Janta Party is struggling to finalise candidate from Indore seat, Congress is facing similar dilemma as party struggles to find a suitable candidate who can ensure its win or give strong fight to Opposition. Among other names in race, a new name has figured in the list of probable candidates from Indore – Jyotiraditya Scindia. His name figured only after Digvijaya Singh was declared party’s candidate from Bhopal, one of the toughest seats in MP. According to party insiders, party will field a big leader from Indore after Bhopal.
Scindia’s supporters also want him to contest election from Indore, a BJP bastion from where Sumitra Mahajan won eight consecutive times. However, many of Congress activists are of the view that Scindia will not contest election from Indore as Guna is unsafe seat and Scindia will have to put efforts there as well. “Apart from Scindia, party doesn’t have big leader for Indore seat. When it comes to local leaders, minister of sports and youth welfare Jitu Patwari can be a strong candidate,” local party leaders said.
Along with Scindia, Pankaj Sanghvi, Swapnil Kothari and acting City congress president Vinay Bakliwal are also preparing for polls. Where Sanghvi has the experience, Bakliwal has recently prepared team for city and appointed over 800 activists as the member of various party committees. Digvijaya’s conversation on phone with chief minister Kamal Nath (latter said Bakliwal is a weak candidate) at city airport created trouble for Bakliwal but he is still seeking ticket. “But party will take decision after BJP chooses its candidate,” Congress leaders said.
