Indore: “Everybody is requested to be present in institutions for flag hoisting programme on January 26 for celebrating Independence Day. This was mentioned in the letter issued by Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College to all its associate institutes.

In a major goof up, MGM Medical College dean Dr Jyoti Bindal issued letter to superintendents of associated hospitals, Junior Doctors’ Association, HoDs, hostel wardens and the retired professors to be the part of the flag hoisting programme but mentioned Republic Day as Independence Day.

The matter became the talk of the college and associated hospitals where seniors didn’t pay attention but employees joked about poor knowledge of dean office personnel. Most employees said even a school student knows that it is Republic Day on January 26.

These are the exact words of dean’s order. “All the teachers, faculty members, doctors, students and staff are requested to be part of flag hoisting programme in their concerned institutions and reach the institutes ground five minutes prior to scheduled time for celebration of symbol of national pride – Independence Day. Everyone’s presence is mandatory,” states the order released from dean’s office on January 15. Meanwhile, dean Dr Bindal admitted the goof up and said it was a typing mistake, which will be rectified. Sources said the mistake had taken place due to ‘copy and paste’ process of previous letter by the staff.
