Indore: The much-awaited metro train project of the city would see light of the day in February 2023, nearly 12 years after it was announced by the then chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.  Principal secretary (urban development) Sanjay Dubey who visited city on Saturday announced that metro train will start operation in city in February 2023. He along with metro train project additional managing director Asheesh Singh and a foreign consultant inspected MG road, one of the routes of the proposed train and to review the situation on ground. He also went through the map of metro train showing areas where the metro train will run on pillars and where it will be underground.

“Following Japan model of planning, execution”

Dubey said it takes time to take necessary permissions for metro train and ink contracts, arrange funds and prepare design. Haste may affect project. “If design factor is not dealt with carefully, then the project may be hit at the time of execution and will result in delay. In Japan, people do planning meticulously so execution take less time. We are doing same,” Dubey said.

31km track in 4 yrs
Dueby said contract has been awarded for geo-technical survey of metro train and an MOU with union government for special purpose vehicle will be signed soon. “We have enough funds for the project. We hope to complete installation of 31-km long track in four to five years. Though the deadline set for metro train in February 2023, our efforts will be to complete track laying work within four years,” he said.

Train and bridge both at Bangali Sq
The train would run parallel to proposed Bangali Square Bridge. PWD will construct bridge at Bangali Square. Train will pass from there. “We will provide Metro train map to PWD so that the two projects work in tandem. IDA and IMC would also be provided copy of the Metro train map so that they can design their infrastructure accordingly,” Dubey said.

Illegal colonies to be regularised

Dubey said permission for regularisation of illegal colonies would be issued shortly. Indore is state’s first city, which saw regularisation of illegal colonies. CM recently announced regularisation of 164 colonies in the city. Dubey stated that there are certain challenges to regularise other illegal colonies. “But we are working on it,” he added.

Dubey reviews smart city & other projects
Dubey also held a meeting at Smart city office and reviewed the progress of Smart city project, Amrut project and Prime Minister Awas Yojna. He directed officials to ensure that the all projects are completed within the prescribed time limit. He was told that the entire city would be connected with water pipeline under Amrut project. He assured IMC for timely funds.

BRTS is a success in Indore, 60k use it daily
Principal secretary Sanjay Dubey said there is no need to uproot BRTS corridor as it is a success. As of now, BRTS is running successfully as 60,000 people use it. PWD minister Sajjan Singh Verma as Indore resident stated that BRTS railing corridor should be uprooted.

Trains to run underground in dense areas in city
Metro train will run underground in densely populated areas so that buildings are not razed. “We don’t want large number of people to be affected by the project. As per current plan, train would run underground from Kothari Market to Bada Ganpati. The main station would be at Rajwada,” Dubey said.
