District Election Office has booked 216 cases against 27 candidates in different cases. This includes 193 cases booked in print media and 26 against electronic media. This number is the highest so far. Neha Meena, Nodal Officer of Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (MCMC) and CEO of Jila Panchayat, informed that total Rs 34,41,820 was added in the publicity expenditure in the accounts of the candidates. The MCMC has booked cases of paid news against 5 and 6 cases of violation of model code of conduct by candidates in the advertisement.
It may be pointed that during the election process, MCMC kept watch on 12 local TV channels and 220 newspapers. The expenditure made on these were under close scanner. Over 100 employees were working in MCMC controlroom 24×7. Social Media platforms like Facebook, twitter, instagram were under watch of the MCMC, which booked 170 cases on WhatsApp groups which indulged in campaigning of candidates. After booking the cases, instructions were sought from Chief Election Officer, Bhopal and subsequently actions would be initiated accordingly.
