Indore: Man duped of Rs 9.4 lakh in name of job, cyber cell refunds Rs 7.45 lakh within hours

Indore: This is one more example of how people are being duped online especially during lockdown and the corona kaal. A man was duped of Rs 9.4 lakh by a conman in the name of job in a telemarketing company on Thursday. Fortunately, the man lodged a complaint with cyber cell and the cell officers managed to refund Rs 7.45 lakh in the bank account of the victim within a few hours.

SP (cyber) Jitendra Singh said Vinod Prajapati of Geeta Nagar area of the city lodged a complaint saying that he had received a call from a person, who posed himself as a officer of a company. Prajapati asked the conman for a lucrative job in the company. The fraudster took some details from the complainant and sent him a link through which the accused siphoned off Rs 9.40 lakh from the complainant's bank account. Prajapati came to know about the fraud after he received a message, mentioning the deduction from his account.

He immediately informed the bank officials and lodged a complaint with the cyber cell.

SP Singh said inspector Jitendra Chouhan, SI Ashutosh Mithaas, constable Vikrant Tiwari and lady constable Vinita Tripathi initiated a probe and managed to freeze Rs 7,45,501 in the suspect's account. Now, they are tracing the remaining amount. The complainant appreciated the job of cyber cell officials for refunding money within hours.

TAKE PRECAUTIONS:

-Do not accept any job offer sent by an unknown person.
-Do not share your bank account information on the link sent by unknown person.
-Do not install any app on your mobile if any unknown person asks you to do so.
-Do not trust fake calls, SMS and emails without confirming it.
-Do not share your personal information like account number, debit or credit card information, Aadhaar Card information, OTP with anyone.
Lodge a complaint with nearest cyber cell / police station or www.cybercrime.gov.in or helpline number 155260 if any cyber crime occurred.
