Indore: We Care For You cell of city crime branch arrested two persons from Ujjain on Wednesday for blackmailing a man by threatening him to make his video with a girl viral. The accused had taken Rs 40,000 from the complainant through PhonePe mobile application to delete the video, which they had captured recently. Cell officials collected technical information about the online money transfer and identified accused as Virndra Singh Rathore and Vijay Singh Panwar, residents of Hingoriya village in Ujjain district. The accused were arrested from their residences and were handed over to Palasia police station where they have been booked under Section 385 of IPC. Further investigation is underway.
Accused Vijay is a graduate and runs a shop of photo camera in Barnagar while Virendra is a farmer. They had borrowed money from someone a few months ago and were facing financial difficulties due to which they blackmailed complainant. Additional Superintendent of Police Amarendra Singh said a man had lodged a complaint that two unidentified persons are blackmailing him after they reportedly shot his video with a girl. Though the accused demanded Rs 1 lakh to delete the video and took Rs 40,000 from complainant for it, they didn’t delete it. Complainant told police officials that the accused demanded Rs 60,000 more. They threatened him and said they will make the video viral if he did not pay.
During investigation, it was found that the complainant had gone to meet his Facebook friend, a girl, in Dewas few days ago. After reaching Dewas, he made a phone call to her and she sent a youth to receive him. After few minutes, the youth met the complainant and took him to a house where his girlfriend was already present. The youth left after dropping complainant there. The youth reached there again along with his friends and started blackmailing complainant. They demanded Rs 1 lakh from him and threatened him to make video with girl viral. Complainant told them that he has no money in pocket. He later sent Rs 40,000 through PhonePe app and assured accused that he will pay rest amount after reaching Indore.
