Indore: A major mishap was averted as an oil tanker and a car collided in Mangaliya on Thursday afternoon. The accident took place 1.5 kilometres away from the depot. According to police, panic prevailed after oil tanker of Indian Oil Company caught fire.
The tanker, which left depot lost control and rammed a car approaching from Sanwer and was moving towards city. As tanker overturned, the petrol leaked in nearby house and caught fire. The fire outbreak in the house killed one cow and injured three other animals. No human casualties were reported in the incident.
The tanker driver, in an attempt to avoid collision with another vehicle, lost control following which the oil tanker over turned. The tanker had three compartments of 3000 litres. Two compartments contained diesel while the third was filled with petrol.
According to police fire brigade team, tanker caught fire at 10.50 am on Thursday. After 2.5 hours and with help of five tankers of water and 1400 litres of foam, the fire was extinguished. The BPCL company also provided foam, which helped in extinguishing the fire. The car driver Amit Prajapati who received minor injuries in head had to be hospitalised.
