Indore: A major fire broke out at MP West Power Distribution Company’s office at Polo Ground on Thursday. Due to fire, one-fourth of the city plunged into darkness. The fire erupted in 132 KV Chambal Grid at 9:30 pm due to increasing load and the fire caught the transformer. Oil in the transformer caused spread of fire in the entire grid. Due to fire, power supply disrupted in several colonies located in the centre of the city. Fire brigade reached the spot and doused the fire after an hour.
At least 60,000 houses went powerless due to fire, which also disrupted several areas like GPH, Rajmohalla, Sadar Bazaar, Sirpur, Subhash Chowk and Rajmohalla zone. Rajmohalla, Bada Ganpati, Sadar Bazaar, Malhar Ganj, Jincy, Jawahar Marg, Rajwada, Jail road, Imli Bazaar, Dhar road, Airport road and some other colonies of eastern and central Indore were also hit by fire.
DISCOM media coordinator Avdhesh Sharma said seven vehicles of fire brigade and DISCOM carried out operation and put out the fire. As part of preventive measures, power supply was disrupted in some areas. “We are making alternative arrangement to restore supply but it will take some time to maintain normalcy,” said an official.
