Indore: The first step towards rejuvenation, cleaning and rebooting Kanh and Saraswati rivers began from Thursday. On Day 1, about 70 encroachments were identified around Kanh in Rajiv Gandhi Square Area. The work of demarcation along Kanh and Saraswati Rivers of the city begun on Thursday under leadership of ADM Kailash Wankhede.
He visited various spots and inspected the challenges of the team’s work and opportunities. Talking to Free Press, ADM Wankhede informed that our primary objective is to identify the quantity of government land spread on both banks of both the rivers. Actually, we want to revive the source of these rivers.
He said four teams have been formed for the demarcation and cleaning project by the Collector Lokesh Kumar Jatav. Under the leadership of ADM Wankhede and guidance of SDM Rakesh Sharma from Pipliapala Regional Park to Nahar Bhandara (Rajiv Gandhi square) demarcation of river at approximately 338 metres was done.
Seventy encroachments were also marked. Second team was commissioned by revenue inspector, Hemant Uike which carried out the demarcation in the 500 metre length towards the Palada Kakad. Likewise, the other two teams formed by the collector also conducted the demarcation work in their area.
It may be noted that action is being carried out to comply with the instruction of National Green Tribunal (NGT). The National Green Tribunal intends that Kanh and Saraswati rivers of the city should be made encroachment and pollution-free.
Many public representatives and voluntary organizations of the city are demanding the revival of Kanh and Saraswati Rivers for a long time. The Commissioner, Indore division and the state government are also working in this regard. The work will be done in a time-bound manner.
