Indore: Kanh purification to be done with NGOs

Indore: The purification task of Kanh River of the city will be done at top priority with the help of NGOs. City’s collector Lokesh Kumar Jatav said cooperation of all the departments concerned would be taken, encroachments will be removed along the Kanh and Saraswati river, beautification will be done and no building above 9 metre height will be allowed along bank of the River. He said it while presiding over a meeting held on Thursday to implement the orders of national green tribunal in the collectorate.

Officers of municipal corporation, revenue, water resources, pollution control board and urban administration department attended the meeting. Jatav said the district administration is determined to purify the river. He said that the municipal corporation, industry department and Indore Development Authority have an important role in river purification. He said that cooperation and consultation with NGOs, students and experts will be taken for the purification of Saraswati and Kanh River. With the help of everyone, it is possible to purify the river.

Collector said that the Municipal Corporation has done a lot of work in the last ten years for river cleansing. Poklen Machine has been working in the past five years for cleaning, silting and widening of the river. Removal of river silt will be done by the Municipal Corporation every year. The sewerage treatment plant has been set up by the municipal corporation at a cost of Rs 16 crores, thereby purifying the river’s dirty water. Over 18 drains which pollute Saraswati and Kanh River will soon be diverted.

He said that the polluted water emanating from the industries of Sanwer road Industrial area will be stopped from falling into the river. Over Rs. 270 crores will be spent by municipal corporation on the purification of Khan River. The number of sewerage plants will be increased. Committee comprising experts will be constituted under the chairmanship of ADM Kailash Wankhede for action plan. Tree will be translocated.

He said for last 10 years, many remarkable works have been done in the area of ??cleanliness of the river by the municipal corporation. Replacement of the old stop dam of the Khan River has been done in place of the replacement. Azad Nagar is a new check dam. Plantation of trees along the river has also been done in Azad Nagar. The wells located on the banks of the Khan River have been cleared and fences and fountains have been installed somewhere. Repairing and cleaning of wells in Azad Nagar has been done.

Repair of check dams has been done near Jagannath bridge, Dhobighat bridge and Parsi mohalla. Nullah has been arranged near the zoo campus. More than Rs. 25 crores has been spent on all these works. ADM Wankhede, CEO IDA Kumar Purushottam deputy collector Shree Lakha Shrotri, RK Gupta of pollution control board and officers from IMC were present in the meeting.
