Violence broke out in Gandhi Nagar area on Wednesday when angry mob pelted stones on policemen of the Gandhi Nagar police station. The mob was demanding strict action against policemen who had brutally beaten a Dalit youth in their custody due to which he died in a hospital on Tuesday. According to reports, family members and relatives of the deceased 25-five-year-old Dalit youth Sanjay Tipaniya alias Sanju of Rijhlay village and a large number of residents gathered at Gandhi Nagar police station and created ruckus.

They demanded police administration to register a case of murder against policemen involved in brutal beating of Sanju and his mother Nandibai. They also demanded compensation for the family members of deceased. Later, the residents went berserk and started pelting stones to show their anger. However, no policeman was injured in the violence.

The police used mild force to disperse the mob. Leaders of political parties also reached the spot and pacified the angry residents. A heavy police force was deployed at the Gandhi Nagar police station throughout the day to avoid any untoward incidence. The family members and residents alleged that policemen detained Sanju and his mother at 12 pm on Tuesday on the suspicion of thefts occurred in Arihant Nagar area and during questioning brutally beaten Sanju. Policemen also thrashed Nandibai who received serious hand injury.

They alleged that Sanju’s condition started deteriorating during interrogation then policemen rushed him to Maharaja Yeshwantrao Hospital where he died around 9 pm. Senior Superintendent of Police Ruchi Vardhan Mishra suspended four more cops of the Gandhi Nagar police station on Wednesday. Ruchi Vardhan had suspended police station incharge Neeta Derwal late night on Tuesday.  The district administration gave Rs 4 lakh as compensation to the deceased’s family. The administration also gave Rs 15,000 to perform last rites of Sanju.

ASP, 5 CSPs attend autopsy
ASP Anil Patidar and five CSP level officers with heavy force were present at the mortuary of MY Hospital during Sanju’s autopsy on Wednesday noon. The family members tried to create ruckus and raised slogans against police. However, they were pacified by the officials. Later, the body was taken to Rijhlay village. Heavy police force was also present during the last rites of the deceased Dalit youth.

Sanju’s injured mother was in the lap of relative
Sanju’s badly injured 60-year-old mother Nandibai was in the lap of a relative when she along with daughter Rajubai, Sanju’s cousin Dilip Solanki and residents reached the police control room to meet SSP Ruchi Vardhan Mishra.  The family members narrated entire incident to SSP. They told SSP that four policemen reached their residence and detained Sanju and Nandibai. They thrashed Sanju and his mother with stick.

Later, they took Sanju to police station and beaten him badly due to which his condition deteriorated and he died in hospital. One of the family members alleged that Gandhi Nagar police station incharge Neeta Derwal reached their home and searched it. The family member also alleged that Derwal took out Nandibai’s anklet from a box and torn its bill.
