Indore: Inter-state gun-running gang busted

Indore: Three members of an inter-state gang involved in supplying pistols in the city were arrested by city crime branch on Friday. About 15 firearms were recovered from them. One of the accused is buyer of the pistol and he is criminal of Chandan Nagar area.

On the instruction of Senior Superintendent of Police Ruchi Vardhan Mishra, a team of crime branch was formed to keep an eye on the people involved in the supplying or buying illegal pistols in the city.

Additional Superintendent of Police (crime) Amarendra Singh said police received information that a man is roaming in Bhanwarkuan to supply illegally made country pistols to someone and another person is roaming in Azad Nagar area. After information, two teams were sent to mentioned places.

When a team of crime branch reached Bhanwarkua, the suspect tried to flee but was arrested by the team. He introduced himself as Nanak Singh (26), a resident of Gogawa in Khargone district.

During search, three pistols from his clothes and four country made pistols from his bag were recovered. The accused was booked by Bhanwarkua police station staff.

Another team of crime branch arrested Abhay Chouhan of Mainpuri (UP) from Nemawar Road. Four pistols, three country made firearms and a live cartridge were recovered from him.

The accused told police that they had supplied a country made pistol to a person named Salman Shah of Chandan Nagar area. Crime branch team arrested Salman with pistol and a live cartridge.

Accused Nanak hails from Gogawa village. His father used to make illegal pistols at their house. Nanak learned to make them from his father and was supplying them in UP and Rajasthan for a long time. Nanak was earlier arrested by Barwah police for supplying illegal firearms.

Abhay was also involved in supplying firearms in other states for a long time. He was caught by police in Rajasthan with four pistols in 2018. After his release from jail, he started supplying them again.

He used to exchange cartridges with pistols from Nanak as cartridges are available at cheaper rate in UP. Accused Salman is a fruit vendor in Chandan Nagar and is a criminal of area.
