Indore: About 16 institutions including schools, hostels and coaching classes were sealed by Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) on Sunday. IMC commissioner Asheesh Singh gave instructions to all the building officers and building inspectors on Sunday to take action against owners of institutions that were running without basic fire safety equipment in their zones. The earlier order had granted them 24 hours to shut down their premises.
“Notices were sent to all 33 centres to shut them down within 24 hours as they failed to comply with basic fire safety norms,” Singh said. The institutions, which were found to be lacking in fire safety norms during inspection include coaching classes, hostels and schools in the city. The 33 institutes have no emergency exit, narrow entry and no fire safety equipment.
The order given by commissioner to all building officers and building inspectors cited Sections 84, 85, 86 of the Central Provincial Land Development Regulation and National Building Code wherein installing fire safety equipment is mandatory. “Keeping in view the security and to avoid possibility of loss of life and property due to fire accident, notices were issued to institutions, coaching classes,” Singh said.
