Indore: While all political parties are busy in preparing their manifesto to influence voters, Indian Medical Association released its manifesto in a bid to political parties to take steps for the betterment of health sector, on Sunday.

Moreover, the local members of Indian Medical Association have decided to hand over the manifesto to local leaders including candidates of major political parties with an appeal to add the points in their party’s manifesto as well.

According to former president of IMA-Indore, Dr Sanjay Londhe, the manifesto contains various suggestions to improve public health, change policy directions, streamline medical education and improve medical research. He said, “There is insufficient health funding and the GDP in healthcare is at a dismal rate of 1.2 per cent.

The out of pocket expenditure is one of the highest for our country and every year 3.3 per cent of people are pushed below poverty line due to health spending.

It is the need of the hour to increase the GDP in health care to 5 per cent.” Along with improving health facilities and medical education, doctors also demanded security for themselves and urged the political parties to make a stringent law to save the doctors.
