Indore: The Indian Institute of Technology Indore organized a special programme on occasion of National Science Day to cultivate and inculcate the interest of young school students towards pursuing a career in science.
The programme’s theme was interactive approach, wherein students were treated to talks by eminent faculty on diverse range of interesting topics, chemical illusion, demonstrations of scientific phenomena and a solar projection box for observing the sun and sunspots. This was complemented by fun glider activities, quizzes and puzzles.
IIT Indore director Pradeep Mathur encouraged students to take up careers in science and technology and elaborated upon various options available to the students.
This was followed by a scintillating session with Dr Rajesh Kumar, who demonstrated the “physics of daily life” with attractive display of light scattering and total internal reflection, followed by a laser-based demonstration of day and night cycle.
Students from the Astronomy and Astrophysics department delivered a talk on the galaxy and stars in space, with a demonstration of the solar system with planets and stars in the ground area.
This was complemented by a hands-on interactive demonstration with a solar projection box to observe the sun and fun glider activities for the students.
