Indore: Bringing laurels to their university and making the city proud, bachelor of engineering course students of Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET), an entity of Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, won Smart India Hackathon – 2019 held in Ghaziabad.
A team of six students – Abhinav Pande (team leader), Sumit Singh, Niti Mangwani, Soun Gupta, Ravindra Kushwaha and Sarthak Joshi – developed software for predictive inventory system of Everest Industries. Their software was adjusted as the best. T
he winning team was given a cash award of Rs 75,000 and certificate. One of winning team members Sumit said, “After 36 hours of non-stop coding and hours of discussion, we finally won with lots of fun and memories.” A hackathon (also known as a hack day, hackfest or codefest) is a design sprint-like event in which computer programmers and others involved in software development including graphic designers, interface designers, project managers and domain experts, collaborate intensively on software projects.
“The goal of a hackathon is to develop software for resolving issues presented by ministries and industrial organisations,” IET director Sanjeev Tokekar said. Hackathon has specific focus, which can include the programming language used, the operating system, an application, an API, or the subject and the demographic group of programmers. In other cases, there is no restriction on type of software created.
