Indore: A blueprint prepared by traffic police for traffic management in the city claims that two i-buses pass through squares on Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) corridor every minute and halts the vehicular flow there. On Sunday, public works and environment minister Sajjan Singh Verma while attending an event in the city said BRTS corridor should be uprooted. He added that it causes obstruction in traffic movement and also leads to water logging.
Cabinet minister for urban development and housing Jaivardhan Singh said Bhopal BRTS corridor doesn’t seem to be successful and should be reviewed. The traffic police blueprint indicates that BRTS corridor “obstructs” vehicular movements.In an attempt to improve the vehicular movement in the city, traffic police gave suggestions and data about the traffic conditions and measures to improve them.
The data indicates that BRTS measures 3,02,775.01 square metres of which the BRTS corridor is 94,839.58 square metres (31.32 % of total road area) while the mix lane is 2,07,935.5 square metres (68.68% of total road). The data highlights that about 58,598 people travel through BRTS road daily from 6 am to 10.30 pm. In mix lane, around 1,63,576 people travel including 1,38,462 vehicle riders and 25,114 pedestrians.
In addition to BRTS, traffic police suggested relocation of Sarwate Bus Stand to improve traffic management in city. Various buses travelling to and fro between Bhopal, Khargone, Ujjain, Dewas, Khandwa, Barwani travel along Ring Road for their stoppage at Sarwate Bust Stand.
City traffic police suggests that if the buses for Bhopal, Ujjain and Dewas are stopped at a bust stand at Star Square on Ring Road and the buses leaving for Khandwa, Barwani and Khargone are stopped at Rajiv Gandhi Square or Teen Imli Square, then the traffic burden by these intercity buses will be reduced on AB Road.
Other suggestions by traffic police to improve vehicular movement: Increase RLVD system Currently 28 road squares have Red Light Violation Detection (RLVD) system installed, which helped in significant improvement in traffic conditions of city. If 10 more RLVD systems are installed at certain high traffic marked areas then the traffic management can be improved.
Redesigning of left turn and rotaries The redesigning of left turns and rotaries at certain high traffic zones like Dewas Naka Square, Satya Sai Square, Niranjanpur Square, Kothari Market Square, Vijay Nagar Square and Sayaji Square can also improve vehicular movement and avoid congestion. Road widening The road widening of Imli Bazaar Square, road leading from Khandwa Road IT Park to Tejaji Nagar, Khajuri Bazaar road, Super Corridor to Gandhi Nagar road will avoid frequent traffic jams in these areas.
