Indore: I-T dept seizes hawala documents from three cities

The investigation wing of income tax department seized large number of incriminating documents from Indore, Surat and Ahmadabad ending the four-day survey on Monday. The wing has seized Rs 71.5 lakh. This includes Rs 29.5 lakh from city. Remaining amount of Rs 42 lakh was seized from Surat. In the city, the action was conducted by additional commissioner SP Meena of the investigation wing.

According to information, large numbers of documents showing hawala dealings were seized from Ahmadabad and Surat also. The Investigation wing has started scrutiny of documents seized from a courier office located in Shrivardhan Complex in city. The officers are decoding entries of hawala dealings made in the documents. Sources said hawala deals worth crores of rupee are likely to be exposed shortly. The wing officials are busy tracking people involved in hawala operations under which money was sent from Indore to Surat and vice-versa.

As reported earlier, Betma police had intercepted a bus GJ-14, S-7101 at Methwada Toll Booth coming from Varodara to Indore and took two passengers for frisking. During checking, police had recovered Rs 20 lakh from jacket of Pradip son of Manu Dari and Rs 9.5 lakh from briefcase of his friend Mithun son of Murlidhar Chouhan both hailing from Mehsana district of Gujarat. Later, the case was handed over to income tax department’s investigation wing, which started survey at courier company on Saturday.
