Indore: We have all heard the famous dialogue in Sholay… “jail mein surang”, which involved Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra and Keshto Mukherjee who played the spy’s role to the jailor. Taking off from the reelatiy, one may ask, “Humare shahar mein surang?”
Yes… that was the talk of the town on Sunday when the employees of a company were digging the ground to accommodate a sewerage line behind Kamla Nehru Prani Sangrahalaya, the city zoo. Passers-by stopped and people of locality reached the site to see the tunnel even as the employees informed the company. Indore Municipal Corporation personnel also reached the spot only to get surprised. “A 11-feet high and 6-feet wide tunnel was there.
It was deep and nobody could muster courage to go deeper into it,” an IMC official stated. He said IMC had no idea about any tunnel behind the city zoo. People of the locality who have been residing there for several decades also stated that they have never seen anyone constructing any tunnel in the locality. However, people and officials who had gathered at the tunnel site wondered if this was built during the British regime.
IMC officers stated that they would find out for what purpose the tunnel was built. They also talked of taking help from Archeological Survey of India (ASI) when it was built and till where it reaches. The IMC is laying sewerage line in Azad Nagar, which will be connected to proposed sewerage treatment plant to come up near Kanh river in front of city zoo. The water treated at the plant would feed Kanh river.
