There seemed to be no relief from scorching heat as mercury level hovered around 39 degrees Celsius on Tuesday. The meteorological department said there would be no relief as hot winds would continue to blow across state in coming days. Hot winds blowing across the city made the day unbearable for residents on Tuesday as people confined themselves to indoors to protect themselves from hot winds.

The maximum temperature on Tuesday was 39 degrees Celsius, which was two degrees above normal. The minimum temperature at 20.4 degrees Celsius was one degree above normal. “Hot winds have made weather dry and there are less chances of relief for citizens even if clouds form in northern part of state,” a department official said. The humidity recorded on Tuesday morning was 27 per cent while it was 13 per cent in the evening.

Meanwhile, city doctors have raised alarm over rise in number of patients suffering from heatstroke, dehydration and vector- borne diseases. Chief medical and health officer Dr Pravin Jadia said cases of heat stroke, dehydration and other heat related ailments are increasing in city due to increase in temperature. “We have directed health officials to keep an eye on number of patients and to provide all possible medical care to them. We have also launched a campaign to make people aware about ways to hydrate themselves and to prevent them from heat ailments,” Dr Jadia said.

CASES OF VECTOR BORNE DISEASES INCREASING

With summer, the cases of vector-borne diseases are also on rise. Large numbers of people reaching OPDs of hospitals are undergoing blood tests for chikungunya, malaria and dengue.

WATER SCARCITY LOOMS ACROSS THE CITY

With increase in temperature, residents of different areas are facing water scarcity and have to wait for tankers to meet their demands. Most affected areas are those located near Bypass and Rau. The water level in lakes of city is also decreasing and conditions are worsening.

There is no major complaint of water scarcity and we are ready to provide water through tankers. Water level in Yeshwant Sagar lake is good and we will get water from it throughout the summer.
