Indore: As private hostels do brisk business in the city, the parents of students who live in hostels have a reason to worry. Most local hostels lack security and fire fighting measures. While an upscale hostel charges over Rs 12,000 per month from a student, a budgeted one charges about Rs 7,000.
What is common between two categories of hostels is that most of them don’t have a fire combat plan. Though upscale hostels provide facilities like air conditioner with proper flooring, they are congested and have very little space to escape in case a major blaze breaks out.
Areas like Geeta Bhawan, Bhawarkuan, Vishnupuri, Indrapuri, Vijay Nagar, Palasia, Mahalaxmi Nagar and Sapna Sangeeta Nagar are full of such hostels.
