Indore: Two days after Lok Sabha Speaker and local MP Sumitra Mahajan stated that “Indore key” is still with her and she will keep it until she finds a suitable person, higher education minister Jitu Patwari on Monday said there is history of grandsons snatching key from elderly people who do not wish to pass it on to others.
“Senior Congress leader PC Sethi had given key (Indore Lok Sabha seat) to Tai many years back. But I request Tai not to be too greedy. What’s the greed for? What’s there in the safe? Tell us,” he told reporters here on Monday. He was replying to a query regarding Mahajan’s statement that “Indore key” is still with her and she would pass it on to a deserving person at the right time.
Reacting sharply to Patwari’s statement, BJP general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya stated that such language is used by persons who do not have any regard for elders. “Patwari should stick to values, if he has any,” he added. Two time MP from Indore Lok Sabha constituency, Sethi after losing to BJP candidate Mahajan in 1989, he had congratulated her saying that he had given the key of Indore to his daughter-in-law and asked her to pass it on when she found a worthy person.
Since then, Mahajan won Lok Sabha election for eight consecutive times from Indore constituency. As Mahajan is into late 70s, speculations were rife whether she would contest elections this year or whether party would give ticket to her. Amid these speculations, she said on Saturday that she would keep the key as of now.
