Fire broke due to short circuit at two places in the city on Monday in which goods worth lakhs were gutted. One incident took place in the densely populated Bajajkhana Chowk while the other took place in a commercial building in Vijay Nagar police station area. According to fire brigade officials, fire broke out in a shop of a goldsmith located in Jhawar Complex at about 5.40 am. Local residents discovered the incident after feeling hot and smelling smoke.
“Local residents told us about the incident on Monday early morning. We immediately reached and doused flames. One tanker of water was used to control fire,” a fire brigade official said. Shop owner Shaikh Ali said along with other goods, gold and silver melted due to fire. A major mishap was averted as gas cylinders were also kept in other shops, which are used to melt and mould gold and silver. Besides, Bajajkhana Chowk is surrounded by Chhota Sarafa, Bartan Bazaar, Marothiya and Dhan Gali, which are city’s major commercial areas.
Fire in Metro Tower
A short circuit caused fire at private company’s call centre located at ground floor of Metro Tower in Vijay Nagar area. Electronic devices and furniture of the call centre caught fire as panic prevailed among employees who safely escaped out from the premises. Smoke spread in the building due to which the building was vacated for safety. Meanwhile, fire brigade officials used more than one tanker of water to douse flames. Computers, accessories and other furniture worth lakhs were gutted.
