For the first time in history of Indian Institute of Management Indore, girl students outshone their male counterparts in medal race.  The fairer sex took away 10 out of 12 gold medals during convocation ceremony at the elite B-school for their scholastic performance.  Only two male students managed to get medals, one of them was of 2016-17 batch.  IIM Indore’s flagship course Post Graduate Programme in Management saw girl students taking away all four medals, including one instituted specially for them.

Similarly, the five year Intergraded Programme in Management saw three girls and one boy walking away with gold medals. In this course also, one medal was exclusively for girls.  Gold medals for woman in PGP and IPM programmes were instituted to attract fairer sex to the B-school.

There is skewed girl and boy ratio at B-schools across the country. However over the years, the ratio improved at IIM Indore which today is having around 39 per cent of girl students on campus. Chief guest of IIM Indore convocation, Sanjay Nayar, CEO, KKR India Advisors Private Limited and an alumnus of IIM Ahemdabad, also acknowledged this fact saying, “When I was at IIM Ahemdabad, the girl-boy ratio used to be 9:141. It is great to hear that there are around 38 to 40 per cent girl students in IIM Indore.”

‘Centre of research excellence at IIM-I’

IIM Indore director Himanshu Rai also stated that they are looking forward to make the B-school a centre of excellence in research. “The faculty of IIM Indore has taken upon them the responsibility to develop a centre of research excellence,” he said. Addressing outgoing students, Rai noted that the job of the leaders has become more demanding and challenging in today’s scenario and they should think out of the box, find a new paradigm and better solutions for sustainable growth. “Greatest leaders also might not also be successful, but they learnt from their mistakes and had the courage to accept failures,” he said. He advised the students that education doesn’t make one great, but it makes one humble.
