Indore: Congress’ ‘Money Bags’ Pankaj Sanghvi proved unlucky for the fourth time as even after BJP fielded a new candidate, he lost once again. After the announcement of candidate by BJP, Congress had seen a chance of winning the seat and penetrating BJP’s bastion through Sanghvi but he couldn’t make it. “I thought it would be a tough fight but Modi factor worked in BJP’s favour. I accept my defeat and respect people’s decision,” Sanghvi said. The Congress candidate lost with over 5.45 lakh votes from his rival Lalwani and All India Congress Committee’s general secretary Priyanka Gandhi’s rally couldn’t help him sail to the winning post. Gandhi’s road show had seen a huge turnout in Indore but couldn’t turn in votes.
Moreover, the presence of three ministers—-Jitu Patwari, Tulsi Silawat and Sajjan Singh Verma, didn’t make any difference. It was believed that the ministers would help Sanghvi get lead in at least their constituencies but the Congress candidate lost with over 60,000 votes in these constituencies. Congress MLAs Sanjay Shukla and Vishal Patel were also the hope for Sanghvi but he lost from Indore -1 by over 1 lakh votes and Depalpur with over 55,000 votes. The ‘unlucky’ Sanghvi had contested three elections earlier on the ticket of Congress and one election on BJP’s ticket. He had only won the corporator’s election which he had won on BJP’s ticket but after coming to Congress, he had lost an assembly election, a mayoral election and MP’s election.
