Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The Economic Offences Wing (EOW), Indore unit recovered gold worth around Rs 16 lakh from the locker of Rajesh Parmar, a suspended assistant revenue officer (ARO) of the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC), an official said on Saturday.

Parmar had a locker in SBI’s Keshar Bagh branch, from which officials also recovered silver worth around Rs 25,000. Additionally, they found documents, jewellery, bank account details and cash, with the total estimated at around Rs 4 crore.

EOW SP Rameshwar Singh Yadav said, “We opened Rajesh Parmar’s locker and recovered gold worth around Rs 16 lakh. Currently, we are scrutinising all the documents and jewellery, which indicate a total worth of around Rs 4 crore. Of this, approximately Rs 3 crore has been assessed as the value of his properties. His total earnings from government service would be around Rs 50 lakh. Parmar was originally hired as a Beldar and rose to the position of ARO of IMC during his tenure. Some of his expenditures, such as online transactions and foreign trips are not recorded yet. We also found documents suggesting that Parmar had lent money. The exact value of his assets will be determined after an evaluation by the PWD and the investigation is still ongoing.”

To note, the EOW conducted raids on properties linked to Rajesh Parmar in Bijalpur and Kanadiya area early Friday morning. During government service, he purchased residential buildings and plots in his and his family members’ names. After verifying the complaint against Parmar of acquiring disproportionate assets worth crores through corruption, a case was registered against him under sections 7(c), 13(1) (b), and 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act,1988.
