As doctors at government hospital did not want their retirement age to be extended, the health department has made the extension optional. Faced with shortage of doctors, the health department had extended their retirement age by two years or more, which they opposed. A delegation of doctors had registered protest against retirement extension plan with health minister Tulsi Silawat at a function in city.
About 125 doctors are likely to retire this year. This includes about 10 doctors from Indore district. At the same time, young doctors are not interested in joining government facilities. As part of new arrangement, chief medical and health officers and civil surgeons have been directed to get forms containing option of service extension filled. An order to this effect ha s been issued by director (administration) Aruna Gupta and forms have been uploaded on the department website.
“Department is looking for doctors who are willing to extend their service by one year. We have to send list of doctors who are going to retire or who retired in last two years to Bhopal,” chief medical and health officer Dr Pravin Jadia said. Doctors will have to inform the department about the post from which they are retiring and also their present and initial salary.
