Indore: Amidst demands of doing away with online counselling for admission in colleges, department of higher education (DHE) has decided to simplify the process removing all complex and unwarranted stages including document verification at help centres set up at government colleges.
“Present online admission process is complex. We have identified some stages, which need to be simplified,” said higher education minister Jitu Patwari. He hinted that DHE may scrap the stage of setting up help centres at government colleges for verification of documents.
He also hinted that students may not be asked to make choice-filling at every round of counselling. In the present system, the students seeking admission in colleges need to register online with epravesh portal of DHE. During registration, students are required to make choices of nine colleges, priority wise.
After registration, the students are required to get their get their academic documents verified. Thousands of students line up at limited number of help centres where chaos prevails. Many a time, protests take place at help centres. The DHE is mulling to scrap this stage. “It is thinking of allocating admissions to students first and then letting the colleges to do document verification of students allocated to them. The help centre concept is likely to be scrapped,” an official said.
He also stated that students would not be made to make re-choice in different stages of online counselling. In present system, the students who fail to get admissions are made to do choice-filling after each round of counselling. “Once the students make choice filling, it will remain same for all rounds of counselling,” the officer said.
