Indore: Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) administration has issued show cause notice to Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya Teachers Association (DEVTA) secretary Dr Laxman Shinde who made a claim regarding vice chancellor Dr Narendra Dhakad relishing kachori-pakora and not giving time to a delegation of teachers to meet on February 5.

In the notice, the university administration has asked Shinde to clarify whether he had seen Dhakad relishing snacks when they had arrived to meet him without taking any appointment. Shinde was told to present proof if he had seen the VC having kachori-pakora as claimed by him.

He had also been told to clarify whether the delegation of teachers had taken appointment from him to meet. The notice also sought to known whether Shinde knew that VC was busy in a meeting with two persons, who had duly taken appointment from him.

Shinde has been given seven days to reply. The ties was between the VC and DEVTA members broke when the latter went to hand over a memorandum demanding 7th pay scale from the university on February 5. They claimed that VC did not come out of office to receive their memorandum whereas he had time to relish snacks.

The next day, Shinde made similar claim on DAVV Updates, a WhatsApp group comprising journalists, faculty members and students leaders. The VC is also on the group. “Pakore-kachori khate rahe, shikshakon ko milne ka samay nahi diya (was relishing pakore-kachori but did not give time to teachers),” read a post by Shinde on DAVV Updates.

In his second post, Shinde without naming Dhakad sought to know when they will get rid of (perhaps, Dhakad). “Hame chhutkara kab milega?” he asked. A reporter on the group replied, “When everybody wants (to get rid of the VC).” After this, Shinde posted a request on group, “Work for teachers’ well-being.”The DAVV administration took a screen shot of this conversation and attached it with the notice to Shinde. Shinde said he would reply within time limit.

I was in meeting: VC

The VC said that the teachers had not taken any prior appointment to meet him on February 5. “I was in a meeting with two persons who had come to meet me after taking appointment. When the delegation of teachers reached to hand over memorandum, I did not leave the meeting to accept the memorandum of the teachers,” he said.

Face-to-Face ahead of NAAC’s visit

Ahead of National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) peer team’s visit to DAVV, DEVTA and the VC had come face-to-face. Initially, the VC did not respond to posts by Shinde on WhatsApp group but he sent notice to Shinde making it a base after the DEVTA condemned the VC for not meeting its delegation went to submit memorandum.
