Indore: Held for the first time in central India, Indore Derby 2019 was organised by Young Indians Indore Chapter near Cricket Academy and IT SEZ on Bicholi Mardana Road on Sunday. The event was inaugurated by princess of erstwhile royalty of Mewar Jahnavi Kumari, Maharaja Shakti Singh and Rao Raja Parikshit Singh. Young Indians Indore Chapter chairperson Shrijika Agrawal said 450 people attended the event in which 15 horses took part.
“Of the 15 horses, three horses were of Glory Riding School Indore while others were brought from Bangaluru, Chennai, Mumbai, Pune and Rajasthan. “We introduced dress code for the event. It was formal jackets for men and gowns with hat for women,” said Shrijika Agrawal. A live music performance was also organised. Indore’s budding musician Nimisha Chaurasia sang Bollywood and Hollywood songs. Besides, a multi-cuisine food stall was set up.
Derby details
A 450-metre race track was set up. Each horse had to complete two rounds where each round was of 900 metres. The race started with three preliminary rounds. Of the three rounds, nine horses were selected for semi-finals that took place in two groups. Four horses were selected for final round from which the winner was declared.
Winners
The winner of the main event was horse number-2 owned by Young Indians member Dhruv Anushree Choudhary. Anushree said their horse was from Chennai. The winner was awarded a trophy. Other than main events, best dressed woman title was given to Smriti Gupta, best dressed man was Abhimanyu Narang and best dressed couple title was given to Palak Palkesh Agrawal. Best dressed girl title was given to Vihana Desai and best dressed boy title was won by Mehran Jodhani.
