Indore: DAVV’s management & commerce courses high in demand

Indore: Commerce and management courses offered by various teaching departments of Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) are high in demand.

A closer look at the registration data of common entrance test (CET) through which admissions are granted in popular courses of DAVV revealed that most applicants applied for admission in commerce and management programmes.

CET is a national-level examination through which admission will be granted in 61 courses of DAVV this year. The courses have been divided into five groups. Group A1, Group A2, Group B1 and Group B2.

Group A1 and Group A2 consist of after-school courses whereas Group B1 and B2 comprise courses of post graduation courses. Group A1 and Group B1, put together, consists of 31 courses out of which 26 are related to commerce and management streams.

As many as 17,660 students applied for CET-2019 of which 13,603 applied for courses in Group A1 and Group B1.

The departments participating in the CET-2019 include Institute of Management Studies, International Institute of Professional Studies, School of Economics, School of Commerce,

EMRC, School of Journalism and Mass Communication, School of Pharmacy, School of Data Science and Forecasting, School of Electronics, School of Chemistry, School of Life Sciences, School of Law, School of Physics, School of Electronics, School of Biotechnology, School of Bio-Chemicals etc.

Group A1: Receives highest no of applications

Group A1 has 10 courses of which six are related to commerce and management disciplines.

This group consists of BCom (ATM), BCom (Hons) and five-year integrated courses in MBA (e-commerce), MBA (Foreign Trade), MBA (Management Science) and MBA (Tourism).

The other four courses are five-year MSc (Electronic Media), BA (Economics-Hons), BA (Journalism), BA-LLB. This group received 6,970 applications, which was highest. Every year, integrated courses of this group emerge as top choice of students.

Group A2: MCA, MTech are most preferred

Group A2 consists of nine courses including five-year integrated programme in MTech and six-year integrated programme in MCA. These two courses are most popular courses among students.

This group also comprises BPharm, BCA, five-year MBA (hospital administration) and three BSC honours courses. BSc courses and BCA courses are new entrants to CET from this year.

“We started BSc honours courses following repeated demand of students,” said DAVV media coordinator Chandan Gupta.

Group B1: 18 MBA courses in this group

Group B1 comprises highest number of courses, which is 22. Of the 22 courses, 18 are MBA programmes. MBA (Financial Administration), MBA (Marketing Management) and MBA (E-Commerce) offered by Institute of Management Studies are among the most sought after courses of DAVV.

These courses get filled with students obtaining all India Rank up to 200. About 6,633 students applied for admission in courses under this group.

Group B2: Poor registrations

This group consists of 19 programmes including 18 MSc programmes. This group received lowest number of applications. In all, 989 applied for admission in the courses.

The low registrations are being attributed to students disinterested in science courses. “Students look for admission in courses, which provide them jobs in private sectors. Science courses do not give that opportunity to students,” said Prof Rajeev Dixit.

Exam in 24 cities, three cities dropped

CET will be held in 24 cities. The university has dropped Hyderabad, Amritsar and Dehradun as centres as university did not get receive good response from there.

As per information, only three students each had applied from these cities. As per information, 24 centres have been set up in Indore, three in Ujjain, two in Bhopal and one each in rest of 21 cities. In all, 50 centres have been set up in 24 cities.
