City police on Monday arrested a couple for duping people to the tune of Rs 10.8 crore while promising to invest it in share market. The couple promised people that their money will double in three years. The couple had also threatened people when they asked them to return the money. According to Tejaji Nagar police station staff, Ashwin Nidhochkar and his wife Ashwini Nidhochkar, residents of Mahalakshmi Nagar, were arrested on Monday on the complaint of share broker Rakesh Gupta.
“The couple had duped five to six people in the name of investing money in share market and to get it doubled in three years,” police said. The couple had allegedly used fake documents of victims to open demat accounts as well. Complainant Rakesh Gupta told police that he had invested all money his father had received on retirement from government job along with the amount of his close relatives, which was over Rs 10.8 crore.
“I also approached accused for getting the money back as they neither invested nor returned. The accused sent goons at my place to threaten me and refused to return my money,” Gupta told police. After investigation, police registered a case against Ashwin Nidhochkar, Ashwini Nidhochkar and Mohin Nidhochkar, mother of Ashwin under Sections 406, 420, 467, 468, 471, 294, 506 and 34 of IPC and arrested the couple.
