Addressing the inauguration ceremony of 77th Annual Conference of All India Ophthalmological Society on Thursday, Satyrathi said, “Eyes are the window to see the world and ophthalmologists are serving humanity by treating eyesight problems of people so that they can see the world in a better way.

We should see all the problems with eyes of children through which we can find a better way to solve them and to come out of them.” The noble laureate said that people should have a vision like children to make the world peaceful and better place to live. There are various advancement in treatment are taking place and the experts from across the globe will share each other’s knowledge to play their part in making the country blindness free.” Chairman of scientific committee Dr Lalit Verma said, “About 70 million people are affected by diabetes in our country.

Uncontrolled consumption of fast foods has resulted in significant increase of such diseases. New technologies for dealing with eye damage caused by high blood pressure and high sugar are now available. Instead of lasers injections are used for improving eye sight.”

Dr Virendra Agrawal, from Jaipur, said that there is no such data available which can confirm that now days more children are suffering from eye sight related problems. “The increase in spectacles usage these days is due to increasing awareness and it also depends upon the curvature of eye ball”, he added. Meanwhile, organising committee vice president Dr Prateep Vyas, Secretary Dr OP Agrawal said that the conference is being attended by chief of International Council of Ophthalmological Society Peter Widmann (USA) and Dr Gyan John Prakash.

If children troubled due to my presence, it is not accepted: Satyarthi

The noble laureate expressed his love for the children in the conference and said that it is not accepted to him if any child gets trouble because of him. He had to say the same when some children were removed from the entrance gate when his car was entering the venue.
