Indore: Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV), which conducts affiliation process throughout the year, faces a challenge to complete the process for 2019-20 session by May end. “We will be start centralised online admission counselling for admissions in government and private colleges from May end. By that time, the universities will have to complete affiliation process. In case, they do not it, then all colleges will be allowed to participate in online admission counseling without affiliation also.

Once a college participates in online counselling, then it can’t be denied affiliation by the universities even if it lacked requisite infrastructure and facilities,” said higher education minister Jitu Patwari. Department of higher education (DHE) wants only affiliated colleges to participate in the online admission counselling so it taking matter in its hands fixed the date to apply for affiliation in university at January 31 which was later extended to February 10.

“The right to decide affiliation matter rests with the universities but this time DHE fixed the deadline to for affiliation in varsities sending a message that it wants affiliation process to be completed before the session 2019-18 starts. But it now stated that the affiliation process should be completed before admissions start,” a professor at DAVV stated on condition of not to be quoted. He said though it is attack on autonomy of universities but held that it was necessary in view of decisions taken by the DAVV last year.

Last year, the DAVV had denied affiliation to four BEd colleges citing shortcomings found on their campuses. The DAVV move had put career of nearly 200 students at stake. The government does not want such a situation to arise again so it directed the universities to decide on affiliation matters within the prescribed time limit.
