Indore: Come April 1, students of UTD and colleges affiliated to Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) would start getting bilingual degree certificates, which will appear in glossy paper and will have advanced security features like QR code. This is perhaps the 10th date given by university to its students in last one year but it never adhered to it.

Thousands of students had put off their plan to collect degree certificates after DAVV’s executive council gave approval for granting bilingual degree in February last year. “Due to procedural delays, the new degree certificate could not be issued. We’ll start issuing new certificates from April 1,” said DAVV vice chancellor Dr Narendra Dhakad.

Deputy registrar (exams) Prajwal Khare said company failed to supply degree format in given prescribed limit. “It had sent few degree certificates, which were given to 22 PhD students during convocation. Now, it has started sending loads of certificates to university. The students who will apply after March 20 will get new format of degree,” he claimed.

At present, DAVV grants two degrees – one in Hindi and another in English language. The university merged nomenclatures of both the degrees into one and came up with single bilingual degree certificate. “A student has to give Rs 200 each for one degree of Hindi and another in English language.

For bilingual degree, the student will have to pay Rs 300. In this way, he will save Rs 100,” deputy registrar (exams) Prajwal Khare said. The new certificates will be non-tearable, water proof and will have eight security features.
