A clerk at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College who has been receiving threats for supervising anti-encroachment drive in the campus has been provided armed guards. The college has provided him security, unofficially. In last two months, medical college served notices to people residing in college campus to vacate allotted houses. Soon, college clerk Gopal Rane started receiving threat calls.
“He is being threatened by those residing in the medical college campus who believe that Rane is responsible for serving them notices to vacate the place and he is giving information to college officials about the houses,” a college personnel said wishing anonymity.
Rane lives in the same campus. The college administration has providing him security at night. Sources said two gunmen of UDS Company who look after security and cleaning in MGM Medical College and MY Hospital stand guard outside his house at night. College dean Dr Jyoti Bindal said Rane has asked for security as he is being threatened by some residents. “We’re looking into his demand and will provide him security if required,” Dr Bindal said.
MGM Medical College had served notices to more than 80 people for vacating the allotted houses and to remove the encroachment for infrastructural development of college. Recently, 17 people have vacated houses.
College administration has also asked National Cadet Corps to shift its campus from college premises as it has to construct staff quarters and cafeteria for super speciality building.
