Indore: Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has asked schools to get videography of sports events done. The order, which will come into force from 2019-2010 academic session, is aimed to bring in transparency as many students complain of foul play in the sports competitions. The order is meant for sports, which are held under the aegis of CBSE inter-school sports competitions.

“In order to bring transparency and promote fairness in games, CBSE has decided that videography will be compulsory for all sports events at cluster, zone and national level.

The recordings shall be maintained by the organising schools for a period of three months after the events are over. The organising schools shall meet expenditure on videography out of CBSE grant. No extra payment will be given by the CBSE,” the CBSE letter addressed to schools said.

Sports competitions are organised across the country with schools playing host at cluster levels. From clusters, selections are made for national level contests.

“This will allow CBSE to overcome any bias at cluster level competitions and declare winners in a transparent manner,” Emerald Heights International School principal Siddharth Singh said.

He said CBSE’s annual sports meet is a mega event whose budget is probably the biggest in the country for school level sports. Its expenditure runs into crores of rupees.

Host schools get grants between Rs 2 lakh to Rs 3 lakh to meet expenses of lodging and boarding of participating students. This is in addition to recurring expenditure for sports.

Sahodaya group of school principals has welcomed the move. “There are changes that have to be outsourced but it is good that a video recording will be done. It will help to settle the disputes easily,” the group said in an official statement.
