Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Catholics of the Indian Church celebrated the 1950th anniversary of the martyrdom of apostle St Thomas on Sunday around the city. The day is celebrated as Indian Christian Day because it was St Thomas, one of the apostles of Jesus, who brought Christian faith to India in 52 AD. He established seven churches in Kerala and was martyred in 72 AD.

On this day, Catholics of the Sacred Heart Church gathered together in the morning hours in front of Rajeshwar School for a religious procession. Rev. Fr Thomas Rajamanikam blessed the new statue of St Thomas which was wonderfully decorated with a variety of flowers on a dola. Then, a religious dance was presented by girls which enthralled all. All the people participated in the procession and recited prayers and sang songs.

Evening event

In the evening, the people gathered at the St Raphael School auditorium to celebrate the occasion by performing religious and cultural activities. Vice-chancellor of DAVV University Renu Jain was invited as the chief guest to celebrate the occasion along with all. She said, “One should grow above the boundaries and believe in the concept of togetherness. Bishop Chako said that, rather than focussing on the negative characteristics of a person, one should concentrate on their potentially positive traits.”
