Indore: The big hole in BRTS at Geeta Bhawan square has been repaired and the route for i-bus is open. However, i-bus drivers are more accustomed to driving in mixed lanes and still missing to take the designated lane at the square. The hole was formed on April 22 due to an underground primary sewerage line that damaged the road and it caved in. Due to the incident, all the buses that run on BRTS were diverted to ply on main lanes of busy Agra Bombay Road.
This was for the second time, when such an incident has occurred in the area. Around five years ago, a portion of road had caved in making up to 10-12 feet deep hole. A car had stuck in the hole which was created due to sinking soil. Hence, another portion heading to MGM College was also repaired as a precaution. As the buses started ply in BRTS again, the traffic congestion, which was aggravated due to it, is expected to get relief.
Most residents were switching to ring road and other alternatives routes to avoid the route. One such commuter, prof Prakash Chowdhury said, “I have to travel the same route everyday and normally it took about 20 minutes even during peak hours, but due to i-bus plying in the mixed traffic lane, it took about 30 minutes for me to commute.” He narrated the incident how he was stuck behind i-bus with no space to overtake. “Mixed traffic lane does not have enough space for more than two cars to ply at squares like Geeta Bhawan and i-bus occupied a lot of space,” businessman Girdharilal Vasudeva said.
