Indore: Large scale irregularities in Bachelor of Education (BEd) second semester exams have come to fore as Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) got answer books evaluated again after initial evaluation threw up unbelievable pass percentage. “Initially when the answer books were examined, the pass percentage was 96. As the pass percentage was indigestible, we got answer books of scrutinised again and found a massive drop in pass percentage. Now the pass percentage is merely 59,” said vice chancellor Dr Narendra Dhakad.
He stated that second evaluation of the answer books exposed gross irregularities in BEd second semester exams. “I am going to constitute a three member committee to probe into the malpractice,” said Dhakad. Unfolding the past, the BEd course results had shocked DAVV as the pass percentage stood at 96. As the pass percentage was unbelievable, deputy registrar (confidential) Rachna Thakur recommended review of results before announcement. Her recommendation was partially accepted and the results were withheld. Review of one subject answer books was conducted which discovered totaling mistake in 52 out of 1,400 answer books.
As questions were raised, the DAVV ordered for sample review of all subjects answer books. In sampling, signification deviation was found in six out of 10 subjects in the BEd course which led to order for fresh evaluation of answer books in which deviation was significant. The fresh evaluation threw up shocking results. Out of 4,456 students, 2,628 cleared the exams successfully and remained failed. Results of 44 students are withheld. It is believed that the names of examiners were leaked to BEd college directors and students who approached them and got good marks in exams.
