Indore: Battery of VVPAT to be removed to maintain transparency after poll

Indore: To raise confidence among political parties and maintain transparency, batteries of Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machines will be removed after completion of Lok Sabha elections. Also, EVMs and Control Units will have to be sealed properly after polling is over.  These were the instructions given by the Master trainers to over 3,600 employees during the election training held here at Holkar Science College and Atal Bihari Vajpayee Arts and Commerce College on Monday.

The training was given in 2 sessions first conducted from 11pm to 2pm and second from 2pm to 5pm. The training was organised and coordinated by Additional Collectors Ajay Dev Sharma and Kailash Wankhede. A health camp was also organised at the training site to extend the required medical aid. There was also provision of drinking water and ambulance. Master trainers informed about the operation of ballot units, control units and VVPAT to employees. Employees were also explained about the nuances introduced in the voting process.

It was told that the illiterate, blind and even divyang voters would be eligible to have an assistant during the polling. Before voting, non-eraseable ink has to be marked on the index finger of the left hand. After voting, control unit has to be closed. Prior to regular voting, mock poll have to be mandatorily conducted at all polling stations and it is necessary to seal EVM machine after voting. The recipients appreciated the training. Drinking water health camp, ambulance, chargeable buttermilk was provided to them. As the training session was over, they were given electoral duty certificates (EDC) or postal ballot.

Employees were also trained through audio-video tools. The questions were being answered. More than 3,600 trainees were present on this occasion. In the training camp, Deputy Collector Anshul Khare give away EDCs to members of polling teams, sector officers, FST, SST, VVT, assistant returning officers, webcasting teams, driver-conductor, videography teams, micro observers, doctors, communication teams, police, home guard, special police officer and personnel of SAF.
