Indore: ASI gets 5-yr jail in bribery case

Indore: Special judge, Dhar Dr Shubhra Singh on Thursday sentenced an assistant sub inspector of police to five years in prison under the prevention of corruption Act. He has also been fined by the court and if the fine amount is not paid, he would have to go to an additional term for 6 months.

District public prosecution officer RD Jamre said complainant Omprakash Patidar, a resident of Bichhiya village in Sardarpur (Dhar) had met to ASI Basant Singh Dhundh (then reader of SDOP, Sardarpur) for the name transfer in the license of his firearm.

Dhundh had reportedly demanded Rs 2500 from Patidar for forwarding his application to the office of Superintendent of Police, Dhar. Later, Patidar had lodged a complaint with Superintendent of Police (Lokayukta) for the same on February 18, 2016 after which the Lokayukta team caught red-handed to Dhundh after he took bribe from Patidar outside his office.

Inspector Asha Sejkar had investigated the matter and the charge sheet was presented before the special judge. A list of 22 witnesses was also presented before the court. After the hearing and on the basis of evidences, the court slapped a five-year prison term and a fine to Dhundh. Deputy director (prosecution) Trilokchandra Billore argued in the case on behalf of government.

A special court judge awarded four years of rigorous imprisonment to an agriculture officer and slapped a fine of Rs 500 on him. Suresh Chandra Sharma who was posted at Harsola in Mhow had taken Rs 1000 bribe from a farmer Subhash Patidar but was caught red-handed by Lokayukta police.
