Indore: Amidst protests and tears, Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) on Wednesday demolished portions of residential and commercial structures coming in way of installing Narmada pipelines in Kushwah Nagar. Armed with five JCB and three poclain machines, IMC removal gang comprising 140 members carried out demolition drive in Kushwah Nagar. Nearly 50 police personnel were also part of the drive who ensured that no obstruction occurs.
“Sheds of 30 shops and illegally constructed portions of more than 10 houses were demolished,” said deputy commissioner and removal gang incharge Mahendra Singh Chouhan. He said IMC had issued notices to landlords asking them to remove structures posing hurdles. “When time limit expired, we carried out demolition drive on Wednesday,” said Chouhan.
When removal gang reached Kushwah Nagar, shopkeepers and aggrieved residents raised protest. But they were removed to start demolition drive. On IMC’s request, west discom snapped power supply of the locality so no fault occurs in electricity lines due to drive.
At 5 pm, the drive was stopped and power supply was restored. After team left, residents who were served notices themselves started pulling down portions of their shops and houses marked by IMC. Chouhan stated that they would resume demolition drive on Thursday.
