Indore: After days of oppressive humidity, the dark clouds that were hovering over the sky for last three days opened up on Sunday evening bringing relief for residents.
The meteorological department said it was pre-monsoon rain. As the clouds enveloped city sky, it turned dark at 3.30 pm on Sunday. The rain began at about 4 pm.
The weather remained humid throughout the day as the temperature continued to soar. Showers and thunderstorms occurred in the city and surrounding areas with wind blowing at a speed of 10 kilometres an hour in the evening.
Several trees were uprooted and caused power cuts as hairline cracks appeared in supply lines in many areas.
The city recorded a maximum temperature of 37.6 degrees Celsius, which was three degrees above normal while minimum temperature recorded at 23.5 degrees was one degree below normal.
Wind blew from south-west direction for most part of the day. Morning and evening humidity was 79 percent and 85 percent respectively. The meteorological department has predicted that weather will remain cloudy for next two days as the monsoon will arrive in MP soon and conditions are favourable for it.
Due to weekend, many people enjoyed the rain and moved out of the houses. Many were seen at eating joints across the city.
Though city received rain for half-an-hour, the local weatherman recorded 3.2 mm rainfall. “Not all parts of the city witnessed rain. The precipitation was heavy in eastern part. It was mild in western and others parts,” local weatherman said.
Trees fall
Trees fell at several places in the city strong winds blew with rain. Trees fell in IMC premises, near Central Jail due to which the traffic was diverted. Another tree fell near St Arnold School in Vijay Nagar area.
