University accepts demand for taking legal advice on whether poll schedule can be amended

Indore : Crossing all moral limits, activists of the ABVP on Friday misbehaved with Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) registrar VK Singh as he said that their demand of taking legal advice on the schedule of upcoming university’s court could not be accepted.

As the registrar informed them there was no scope for legal advice on the poll schedule once announced, the protestors passed derogatory remarks on him and other varsity officers.

They alleged that the registrar having hand in glove with some graduates intentionally declared election schedule on April 13 giving merely one day for registrations for the polls.

“From April 14 to April 16, there were holidays at the university. So, technically graduates got only one day i.e. April 17 for registrations,” alleged the protestors led by their national secretary Rohin Rai.

They demanded for amending the poll schedule giving more time to the graduates for registration but when the registrar said that there is no provision for the same in the rulebook, the protestors resorted to talking loose with him.

They also locked the main channel gate of the university building keep students inside hostage for nearly two hours.
It was only after vice chancellor Dr Narendra Dhakad reached the university the protest ended as he accepted their demand of taking legal advice on whether the declared poll schedule could be amended.

The registrar, who was against taking legal advice, also gave in to the protest and approved their demand of legal advice.

“Though any legal advice on declared poll schedule is redundant, we are ready to take legal opinion as that’s what the ABVP leaders want,” Singh said.

The court elections are to be held at the university on July 18 after a gap of 30 years.

Rohin said that they protested only because they thought that fair chance was not given to all graduates to apply for the polls.

“With the university should have announced the deadline for registration when the registration window was opened in December, 2016. As that was not done merely 85 graduates could register for the polls,” he said adding that they would be moving Indore bench of Madhya Pradesh High Court against the university notification dated April 13.
