Indore: As many as 80 families living in Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College campus were shocked to receive eviction notice by college administration, which asked them to vacate the allotted houses in 15 days. The notice released by MGM Medical College on January 5 has shocked the families who are living in the campus for years and don’t have any other place to go.

MGM Medical College administration has served the notice to families of 27 employees who are employees in associated hospitals of the college and to about 50 employees associated with the divisional commissioner’s office. College administration said PWD has declared the houses as dilapidated and therefore college administration will demolish them.
The houses were allotted to them years ago and they claimed that their generations have lived in these houses.

Meanwhile, the families also met the MGM Medical College dean to seek more time to vacate the houses but to no avail.
One of those who received the notice, wishing anonymity, said, “College administration has served us a notice to vacate the house all of a sudden. We have requested the college administration to extend the time as it is not possible to arrange for another accommodation in 15 days.”

He also said that they have spent about Rs 1 lakh in renovation of the house but the PWD has declared it as dilapidated.
Another employee of MY Hospital, who received the notice, alleged that the college administration had shifted families living in illegally constructed houses to other places but they are denied the same.

Meanwhile, acting dean Dr KK Arora said, “We informed the family members earlier. It was not a sudden notice and the houses were declared dilapidated by PWD earlier.” MGM Medical College spokesperson Dr Rahul Rokade said, “We asked PWD and IDA to provide an alternate space for shifting the families. We didn’t get any place to shift and now decided to give them house rent allowance.”
