Indore: The health department has claimed to cover 61 percent of children, aged between 9 months to 15 years, in the district. They have been vaccinated to prevent them from measles and rubella diseases. The department had launched the campaign on January 15 and covered over 6 lakh children.
“We are still vaccinating children. We have asked ASHA and Aanganwadi workers to visit every home and check children’s vaccination status,” chief medical and health officer Dr Pravin Jadia said. He said department has achieved more than half of target, which is 61 percent, and plans to continue the campaign.
Besides, the health department has authorised private hospitals to vaccinate school students for free and will provide vaccines to them. “Many school students were left out under the drive. We have authorised private hospitals to vaccinate them,” Dr Jadia said.
However, the department has yet to fix the timing for children’s visit to private hospitals. Meanwhile, health department and district administration are taking support from distinguished residents to motivate people in this regard. Besides, department has taken help of social media to spread the message. Over 1.5 crore children in the state and over 8.8 lakh children in Indore district will be vaccinated.
It is for the first time in state when such injections will be administered to the children. Auto-disable syringes will be used for vaccination. These syringes become non-usable after single use. Special training will be given to the immunisation officers for administering vaccines and syringe disposal.
