About 1000 complaints of power cuts were received at Madhya Pradesh Western Region Power Distribution Company (west discom) after dust storm hit the city late on Sunday night and disrupted power supply in several areas, especially eastern parts. As per information, power supply was disrupted in houses located in six zones of discom.
The areas, which were affected due to power outage were Shukhliya, Vijay Nagar, colonies near Bypass, Regal and Yeshwant Niwas Road. Discom sources said call centre received nearly 1000 complaints from Sunday to Monday. On an average, discom receives 500 complaints every day but the number doubled due to faults during dust storm. In some areas, tree and branches fell on power supply lines. It took time to remove logs and restore supply.
Discom claimed it resolved 900 out of 1000 complaints within three hours. The complaints could have been more but the limited staff at discom call centre could not take all calls coming to them. Several people spen t all night calling helpline number of discom (1912) but it remained busy. Following complaints regarding unattended calls, the discom increased staff at call centre.
There would be 60 employees in two different shifts at the centre during day time and 36 employees during night. Discom managing director Vikas Narwal said efforts are underway to make call centre more effective. “The complaints received on Urjas app are also resolved promptly,” he added.
