Indore: Lok Sabha Speaker and Indore MP Sumitra Mahajan hoisted the national flag at a height of 100 feet at city railway station on Friday. Railway Board has chosen Indore among country’s 69 railway stations where national flag will be hoisted.
Besides, she flagged off weekly Indore – Delhi Sarai Rohilla train from railway platform number one.

A coffee table book on Patalpani – Kalakund heritage train was also released, which followed screening of short film on heritage train. “This railway was to be converted into broad gauge but we saved it to enjoy natural beauty spread along the route,” Mahajan said while addressing a function at railway station.

She said national flag will remind every passenger that India is his or her country and that they have a duty to perform towards the nation. “This includes maintaining cleanliness at railway station,” Mahajan said. She said Indore – Bikaner Express train will start within a week while timing of Indore – Udaipur will be changed (at night) within a month. She also said Indore-Khajuraho train will start soon. She announced Rs 15 lakh from MP fund for setting up benches at railway stations.

Speaking further, Mahajan said passengers from Indore to Ajmer need not worry as Indore- Jodhpur, Indore-Jaipur and Indore-Delhi Sarai Rohilla will take them to their destination. She said Indore-Patna train will ply on Monday too in addition to Wednesday and Saturday while efforts are on to launch Indore-Howrah train. “There is train from Indore to all state capitals now,” she said.

Tickets worth Rs 43L sold Rail passengers from Indore purchased tickets worth Rs 43 lakh in last 10 months. This was revealed under Right to Information sought by BJP leader Jagmohan Verma, a member of Zonal Railway Users Consultative Committee. In all, 37,618 passengers were caught ticketless.

Tai dismisses charge of ignoring  Vijayvargiya Indore MP Sumitra Mahajan denied that local MLAs were ignored at the function held at railway station on Friday. “This is Western Railway’s function and they decide whom to invite,” she said when pointed out that area MLA Akash Vijayvargiya has boycotted the function as he was not invited. “Akash is like my son. I have not ignored anyone,” she insisted. Asked whether she will contest Lok Sabha elections again, she said it for BJP to decide.
